James Gunn spoke to reporters from Collider. During the conversation, we were talking about “Guardians of the Galaxy 3” – and suddenly it became clear that the director did not have enough of the allocated budget. Because even half a billion dollars would not be enough to realize all his violent fantasies:
I always think about the budget when I write a script, always. Even when it comes to big-budget films like Guardians of the Galaxy 3, there are still problems. Still have to struggle to meet the budget. Now, if I had half a billion dollars, then I could realize almost all my ideas. But I don’t have them, so I have to think about the budget and make concessions.
However, this often leads to positive results, as you have to rethink something and come up with creative solutions.
The exact budget of the third “Guardians of the Galaxy” is still unknown. However, the first part had $170 million, while the sequel had $200 million. It is unlikely that anyone allocated 500 million for the third, because these are exorbitant figures.
There are no details about the triquel’s plot yet, so it’s unclear why Gunn would need such a huge amount of money. Still, for half a billion dollars, two trilogies of The Lord of the Rings could be filmed at once.
The release of the new “Guardians of the Galaxy” is scheduled for May 4, 2023.
