MGM’s Orion Television will produce an American adaptation of Yuri Bykov’s The Fool as a TV series. The company bought the rights back in 2014.
The plot of the picture tells the story of a simple plumber Dmitry Nikitin. The hero learns that the dormitory for 800 people is in disrepair and could collapse at any moment. To save people, Dmitry tries to get through to local officials, but becomes a witness to a major corruption scheme.
The film received many awards at the Locarno International Film Festival and the Les Arcs European Film Festival, and was also noted at other events around the world (including Russia).
This is not the first picture of the director, based on which an American TV series is being filmed – before that, the crime drama “Major” was awarded a similar honor. The adaptation was called “Seven Seconds” and was released on the streaming service Netflix. For her performance in the title role, actress Regina King received an Emmy Award.
