The PS5 is having a lot of success, thanks to its (many) capabilities in the video game world. However, compared to Microsoft’s next-gen effort, the truth is that Sony is lacking in some departments. Where it is clear, we have to point out the world of backward compatibility.
After all, both of the rival’s new generation consoles (Xbox Series S and X) are capable of running any and all games in the Xbox ecosystem. However, on Sony’s side, the PS5 only runs games from its own generation and from the previous generation (PS5 and PS4).
However, this could be about to change, in a very interesting effort to not only bet on this ‘retro’ field, but also to revolutionize its own PS Plus subscription-based gaming ecosystem. In other words, backward compatibility is coming, and it seems that it comes hand in hand with the project. Spartacus, which has given so much to talk about.
PS Plus ‘Spartacus’: New evidence! The revolution is coming
So, at the end of last year, we learned that Sony was working on a true revolution to PS Plus, dividing the subscription into 3 tiers, where in the most expensive tier, we would have access to a huge library of PS1, PS2 and PS3 (perhaps also PSP).
All these changes were scheduled for the second half of 2022. However, it seems that the thing will happen much sooner. After all, there have been a lot of moves, and it’s all too obvious that something is really about to happen in the Sony PlayStation world.
After all, several new patents focused on backwards compatibility became public, and as if that wasn’t enough, several PS3 games began to appear on the PlayStation Store. The games appearing could be a simple mistake, but so many games? All at once? Smells like shit!
We have some rumors and leaks pointing to an announcement later this week! So let’s wait, with some anxiety in the mix.
