During The Game Awards 2020, Awaceb announced Tchia — a charming story adventure game about a girl who explores a tropical island and can move into animals. The game itself is inspired by the landscapes and folklore of New Caledonia, an archipelago in the Pacific Ocean, on the islands of which the developers themselves live.
In a recent interview, the game director Tchia Phil Crifo stated that the studio went even further and hired native New Caledonians for the voice acting. This means that the characters in the game will speak Dehu, the native language of the island’s 12,000 inhabitants. According to Crifo, this will “create a unique soundscape for the game and make the characters truly come alive.”
One of the key mechanics of the game is the ability to inhabit and take control of both animals and inanimate objects in order to delve into the exploration of the island. To move, the girl enters a trance that slows down time and allows you to choose a target. And in order not to forget who is who, all the objects and animals that you inhabit will have the same flower as the girl.
As you progress, you can develop and control objects for longer, as well as use special abilities. In addition, the game has crafting and customization to change clothes and decorate yourself.
Release Tchia scheduled for 2022 for PC, PS4 and PS5.
