After the start of the Russian operation on the territory of Ukraine and the imposition of sanctions against Russia, Disney decided to suspend work with the local market – in particular, it postponed its premieres for an indefinite period. This is unlikely to affect Disney’s revenue.
According to Disney itself, writes the Film Distributor Bulletin with reference to CFO Christie McGarty, the share of Russia and Ukraine in the company’s revenue is around 2%. The share of one Russia is even less.
Many parts of our business are located in Russia – we were engaged in content licensing and theatrical distribution. However, the loss of this profit is insignificant for us.
At the same time, Disney is a very important player in the Russian film market. According to the Film Distributor Bulletin, in 2021 the company accounted for 25% of revenue, Disney earned about $137 million in the country.
While announcing the suspension of work with Russia, Disney did not say how long such a suspension could last. Together with Disney, four major film companies suspended their work in Russia: Paramount, Warner Bros., Universal and Sony Pictures.
This is interesting
