Dune director Denis Villeneuve is gearing up for his biggest challenge ever: the sequel. Speaking to ET Canada, Villeneuve said that preparations for Dune 2 have already begun. He will return to work on the film on Monday after the Oscars.
It’s going to be a tense film,” Villeneuve said during an event honoring Canadian Oscar nominees:
Now I am preparing. On Monday morning, as soon as we leave Los Angeles, we will resume preparation work. I can’t say anything about the film – I don’t like to talk about projects while they’re being made – but it will probably be the biggest challenge of my career because it’s even more complex than the first part.
Dune 2 will cover the second half of Frank Herbert’s iconic 1965 science fiction novel. Villeneuve had previously confirmed that work on the sequel’s script had been completed. Austin Butler is rumored to be playing the role of the antagonist of Fade Routh. Villeneuve also stated that Zendaya would have a larger role in the sequel. Zendaya plays Shani, one of the original Fremen of Arrakis, where “Dune” takes place.
