The IGN channel has published a major video in which the director of the historical drama “Varangian” Robert Eggers and actor Alexander Skarsgård talked about the difficult shooting of the berserk raid scene. The scene was filmed in one take and the director admitted that it was one of his two favorite moments in the film.
This approach to shooting created many problems and required a lot of preparation. The staff had no easier time than the actors, and required coordinated actions and special equipment. The video presents a lot of shots from the shooting, allowing you to evaluate the efforts of operators, sound engineers and other specialists involved.
Berserkers entered a special state thanks to a special ritual. They have practically lost their humanity, turning into the incarnations of their totem animals – for the main character, this is a wolf bear. Eggers lamented that the film’s ratings prevented several berserkers from being fully exposed. According to the director, such a technique could make these madmen even more intimidating.
The events of “Varangian” develop in the 10th century on the territory of Iceland. The main character is Prince Amlet, who wants to take revenge on the murderers of his father. Directed by Robert Eggers and written by Sjohn Sigurdsson.
Starring Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe, Bill Skarsgard, Anya Taylor-Joy and Alexander Skarsgard. Directed by Robert Eggers (“The Lighthouse”).
The film has already been released worldwide and grossed $23.5 million at the start.
