There are plenty of hidden jokes and easter eggs in Guardians Of The Galaxy, most of which you probably won’t come across in a single playthrough. However, everyone who has played the game so far must have come across Milano’s refrigerator. A device the Guardians use to keep their perishable food cold, or at least try if someone keeps remembering to close the refrigerator door.
Every time a new chapter in Guardians of the Galaxy begins and you return to your ship, you find that the refrigerator door has been left open again. If you walk up to the refrigerator, you can perform an action and force Star-Lord to close it to keep everything inside fresh. It turns out that those who have played the game have performed this action 18.6 million times in total, according to the game’s official Twitter account.
“18.6 million (failed) attempts to close the refrigerator,” reads a screenshot on Twitter, and the developers add that they are delighted with such tenacity. This is because no matter how many times you close the refrigerator, each time you return to the ship, the door will be opened again.
While the fridge is there just to annoy us, John McLaren, who voices Star-Lord in the game, gave it an extra twist in an interview earlier this month. McLaren not only revealed that it was his character who constantly left the refrigerator door open, but stressed that when you return to Peter Quill’s childhood home, you will notice that the refrigerator in the young Star-Lord’s bedroom was also left open by the future Guardian.
Despite the fact that Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy seemed like a standalone game, there is hope among fans that it will receive a sequel or at least DLC. Square Enix previously reported that the game was not a sales success, but the game seems to have taken on new life after being added to Game Pass earlier this year.
