Along with the second season Halo Infinite Xbox Series S introduces 120 FPS graphics mode. Players have been asking for this since the release, but the final result looks depressing.
Youtuber VGTech tested the mode and came to disappointing conclusions.
The shooter in this mode on the Xbox Series S draws a picture in dynamic 1920×1080 using temporary reconstruction, but the maximum native resolution was fixed at around 1536×1080. The smallest value in heavy scenes is 960×540.
On average, the picture goes well below 720p. Often the final image goes exactly to 960×540 – this applies to open spaces in the campaign. The frame rate is also matched – FPS is below 90. Indoors, you can already see the coveted 120 FPS.
In multiplayer, the situation is already much better, but the soapy picture still remains. Probably, the 120 FPS mode was made just with the expectation of online and VRR-enabled displays.
