Japanese electronics manufacturer Sony has begun developing a more powerful version of the PlayStation 5 console, as evidenced by new vacancies at AMD.
AMD has begun hiring employees to develop the next-generation RDNA family of graphics chips that will presumably be used in the PS5 Pro consoles. AMD’s new chipset could be based on the Zen 3 architecture.
If the rumors are true, Sony could start production of the PS5 Pro as early as next year. Recall that the company released the PS4 Pro three years after the launch of the original PS4, so the announcement of the PS5 Pro could take place in 2023.
Taiwanese DigiTimes also reported that Sony suppliers will begin production of the updated PS5 consoles in the second half of next year. The new revision is expected to be cheaper to manufacture, allowing the company to lower the price of consoles and address the chip shortage.
