Nintendo continually develops chapters of its own sagas, continuing to carry on many beloved and famous IPs. Some, however, are a bit ‘in the background, like F-Zero which hasn’t received a new chapter since 2004. Should we give up? According to theex-president of Nintendo of AmericaReggie Fils-Aimé, that’s not it.
In an interview with GamesBeat, the former executive was asked why F-Zero was abandoned by Nintendo. There answer was: “Why was F-Zero abandoned? What I can share is that, at least in my day, the developers of Nintendo were always ready to experiment with different styles of gameplay, always ready to think about how to offer unique experiences, through existing franchises or maybe by creating new franchises. My bet is that somewhere in the development centers of Kyoto, some developers are experimenting with an idea that could be applied to F-Zero. It never happens, at least on the basis of my experience, that a company makes a conscious decision not to continue supporting a certain franchise. Historically it didn’t work that way, at least when I was there. ”
F-Zero
It is not the first time that there is talk of F-Zero and the possibility of a return. For example, Takaya Imamura had claimed that he is not dead, but he needs a great idea to bring it back. Returning instead to 2012, Shigeru Miyamoto had stated that according to him the series had not evolved.
Obviously those of Fils-Aimé are just ideas, there is no kind of indirect reference to games in development. The executive has been away from Nintendo for years and has no information on what’s going on inside the company.
