In an interview with Fast Company, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney said the company plans to publish a Unreal editor for Fortnite over the course of 2022 and allow players to monetize.
Specifically, Sweeney stated: “Fortnite Creative Mode is a set of tools that anyone can use to build their Fortnite island. About half of Fortnite users’ playtime is now devoted to content created by others and half to content from Epic. And this is only the beginning.”
“Later in the year, we will release the Unreal Editor for Fortnite: all the features you have seen [nell’Unreal Engine] will be open so that anyone can create game content and code of the highest quality and distribute it in Fortnite without having to enter into an agreement with us: it is open to all. ”
Then he goes on to say: “Our goal is to make it a first-class tool for reaching consumers, just like with mobile app stores, consoles and Steam. Now we also look at Fortnite and Roblox as ways to reach users. In addition, we are building an economywhich will support creators in creating commercial activities around their work and in deriving ever greater profits from the commerce that derives from the use of their contents. ”
