Authoritative insider and Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman confirmed that Apple is indeed testing an iPhone with a USB-C port instead of Lightning, which could be released as early as next year.
Gurman confirmed a recent tweet by TFI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo about the possible ditching of Lightning in favor of USB-C in the iPhone 15.
Perhaps the company came to this decision under pressure from the EU, as the European Commission is working on a law that will oblige all gadget manufacturers to use a single USB-C standard for charging all devices.
The Bloomberg journalist also noted that if Apple switches to USB-C, the company will definitely release an adapter that will allow the use of all accessories with Lightning connectors.
