Remedy Entertainment, developers of Control and Alan Wake, appear to have some irons in the fire. There were some status updates as part of the current financial report.
There’s a lot going on at Remedy, even if major releases apart from CrossfireX and Crossfire HD in cooperation with Smilegate are currently pending. With development costs growing, Remedy an overview in the annual report given what is currently in the pipeline at the studio and that is not exactly little.
Alan Wake 2 is, of course, likely to be the studio’s biggest hope. The game is now in full production and is slowly but surely taking shape. The game is not expected to be released until 2023. A hoped-for major unveiling of the game in the summer is apparently not yet taking place. The resources for trailers and a first demo should be put into the actual development.
Codenamed Vanguard, a free-to-play co-op game in partnership with Tencent is also said to be making good progress. The project is currently still in the proof-of-concept phase, but the development teams are already being expanded.
The same apparently applies to Codename Condor, a spin-off from Control, although no details have yet been given about it. Another, larger project in the Control universe is said to be Codename Heron, which is currently in the concept and prototype phase. In addition, new technologies and tools are being worked on that will be used for future Remedy games.
Apart from that, work continues on remakes of Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, both in collaboration with Rockstar Games. Remedy had developed the first two parts until Max Payne 3 was produced under the auspices of Rockstar.
Based on the production status, Alan Wake 2 is likely to be one of the first titles from this portfolio that we will be allowed to play at some point. The line-up appears to be set for a 2023-2025 release.
The Ultimate Edition of Control from Remedy is officially available today for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
