Switzerland’s largest festival for pop culture, gaming and cosplay will soon take place over the Ascension Day holidays from May 26th to 28th, attracting fans from all over Europe. the Fantasy Basel is now one of the internationally leading and most important events of this kind.
On 70,000 m2 in four halls of the Messe Basel worlds of experience around gaming, virtual reality, comics, cosplay, urban art and Hollywood are shown. Stars from sci-fi and fantasy films and series such as Harry Potter, Vikings, Star Wars, Game of Thrones, manga artists, a Japan food area, space exhibitions, action zones (such as archery, fencing, wrestling) and much more await visitors to the eighth edition of the three-day festival.

Visitors can meet stars and actors from the film and series world and get photos and autographs. Georgia Hirst (Vikings) Dan Fogler (Fantastic Beasts, The Walking Dead), Alfred Enoch (Harry Potter, How to Get Away with Murder), Dean Cain (superman) Hans Georg Panczak (Star Wars, The Simpsons), Daniel Portman and Vladimir Furdik (both from Game of Thrones) are on site and can be experienced live in exciting stage talks.
Digital media & games: streamers, influencers and content creators
With Anni the Duck, one of the best-known German streamers is on site. In her cosplay streams, she shows how characters from video games come to life and shows the creative process live on Twitch. Other local streamers and influencers from the lifestyle and gaming scene meet in the Creators Lounge. The Festival For Movie, Game And Comic Fans. VR games, video games, board and tabletop games can be tested and bought at the festival. Local e-sports teams provide insights into their everyday life as athletes and the Swiss Game Developers Association (SGDA) present the latest Swiss games. Nintendo is represented with a large gaming zone and a Ubisoft Just Dance Stage, and the SAE Institute provides information on career opportunities in the media industry.
Cosplay, Comic, Manga, Tattoo & Urban Art can be experienced
Internationally known comic greats and mangaka from all over the world such as Enrico Marini, Laura Braga, Ulrich Schröder, Sarah Anderson, Gin and Ban Zarbo present their art in the Artist Alley along with over 200 other artists. World-renowned illustrator of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, John Howe, will be on site, as will fantasy artists Louis and Romulo Royo. Well-known urban and street artists create live art and various tattoo artists tattoo directly at the festival. For three days, the Cosplay Village is home to cosplay stars such as Yaya Han (USA), Yuji Koi (Vietnam), Majed Cosplay (Kuwait), Tine Marie Riis (Norway), Maul Cosplay (Germany), Lightning Cosplay (Germany) and also Swiss cosplay Greats like Folkenstal and Red-Pym Cosplay. Every day, colorful cosplay contests are held on the main stage, where participants from Switzerland and abroad have their self-made costumes evaluated by the international jury.
Space & Sci-Fi: The arc is drawn from science fiction to science and space travel
In addition to props and models from fan groups from the STAR WARS and Stargate universes, a top-class program is running on the Space Stage. Astronauts, space experts and scientists, such as Nobel Prize winner Didier Queloz, take visitors on a journey into space. The Swiss Space Museum is showing its latest program Cosmic Voyage. With this, the organizers want to show how important it is today to take a look at our globe from the outside and to protect and preserve this round wonder. Such a varied program is unique in Europe.
