Last week, scientists released the first images of Sagittarius A*, a supermassive black hole at the center of our Milky Way galaxy, about 26,000 light-years from Earth. These images have inspired many people to create. Including gamer SrMustard, who decided to recreate a black hole in Minecraft.
Despite the fact that there is little to make out in the photographs, SrMustard decided to make his work as realistic as possible. To do this, he added “an accretion disk, a Schwarzschild radius, an event horizon, and a gap between the event horizon and the accretion disk, simulating real empty regions around a black hole.”
The gamer posted his work on the site PlanetMinecraft, so anyone can download it and take a closer look at the black hole. Just don’t repeat this trick in real life or you’ll be stuck in a bookshelf forever.
