Researchers from Trend Micro described the discovery of more than 200 applications in the Play Store that contained Facestealer spyware in disguise. The malware stole the victim’s account information and other important information.
The program was disguised as puzzle games, photo editors, fitness trackers and other applications. According to experts, the functionality of the infostealer resembles the popular Joker Trojan. Both malware have a large number of options and distribute samples by changing the code.
Of the more than 200 programs containing Facestealer, researchers noted that 42 of them were disguised as VPN services. 20 programs were allegedly designed for the camera, another 13 for photo processing.
