The war in Ukraine has also had a sensitive impact on game developers. Frogwares has now received a grant from Epic Games to cushion the negative impact.
Frogwares, headquartered in Kyiv, is undoubtedly one of the game developers who have been hit hard by the war in Ukraine. The Xbox One version of Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One recently had to be canceled. In addition, quite a few employees have either joined the armed forces or are providing humanitarian aid across the country. The economic losses are not bad either.
As Frogware has now confirmed, the studio has received a hefty grant from Epic Games as part of its MegaGrant program, which is normally used to support indie studios. An exact amount is not given, but Frogwares intends to use the grant to relocate employees to safer regions and to provide financial security for those who have relocated to quieter regions of Ukraine or other countries.
In addition, part of the grant will also go to equipment and infrastructure that was impaired by the war. Or as the statement summarizes: “In short, the Epic MegaGrant will be used to soften the financial blow from the war and stay on our feet, and we’d like to thank Epic Games for their support during this trying time.”
The Sherlock Holmes series ventures into an open world for the first time with “Chapter One”. And fortunately it works very well. We tell you why Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One is one of the best adventure games in recent years.
