The problem is still present months after a programmer alerted Huawei itself of the constant problem in its AppGallery. At issue is a flaw that allows you to download, download apps android premium without paying through the Chinese technology store Huawei.
More specifically, a vulnerability in the Huawei AppGallery makes it possible for any user to download paid Android apps for free to their Huawei device. Apparently, the exploit will remain active on the platform.
Download Android apps without paying via Huawei AppGallery
We remind the reader that since the embargo established by the United States of America in May 2019, Huawei smartphones and mobile devices do not have access to the Google Play Store. Likewise, they also do not have access to other popular Google services.
Thus, to obtain new mobile applications for their smartphones and tablets, users have to resort to the alternative developed by Ren Zhengfei’s company, AppGallery. This is currently a core part of their Huawei Mobile Services (HMS).
However, this young platform is not free from bugs and flaws, like any technological service. However, the latest flaw discovered in the AppGallery is quite peculiar in that it allows you to circumvent the cost associated with premium Android apps.
The flaw was discovered by programmer Dylan Roussel in February 2022
As he explains himself in your publication, after making an application available on the AppGallery, the developer decided to investigate the Huawei API. Now, what was his astonishment when he noticed that this API didn’t offer any protection for premium apps.
Although the exact contours require a good amount of technical knowledge, succinctly, with some work on the part of the user, it is possible to obtain the APK (Android app installation file). This in any premium or free application.
The procedure was demonstrated by the developer in his publication referred to above, showing that the problem does not lie with the developers of the applications. Thus eliminating the suspicion that they could, for example, not be activating the verification of the purchase and use license of their apps. The problem will lie, says the programmer, with Huawei itself.
The flaw remains present in Huawei’s AppGallery
In other words, this may be depriving developers of the potential benefits with their applications, in addition to being able to encourage piracy and counterfeiting of applications. Likewise, this exploit can be used by hackers and malicious parties to target users of Huawei smartphones and mobile devices.
Finally, the programmer claims to have informed Huawei of this failure in February 2022. Then he will have given the Chinese company five weeks to resolve the problem before publicly disclosing its findings, something he has now done in late May.
In short, with some effort, premium apps can still be downloaded for free from the AppGallery. However, we believe that Huawei will correct this lapse. It should be noted that Huawei has already acknowledged Roussel’s communication, also offering her a reward for finding and flagging a flaw in the platform, a prize that will have been declined.
