Chris Roberts published quite a large post in which he talked about the 4.0 update for Star Citizen and future plans of the studio Cloud Imperium Games.
Despite the fact that there was an ambiguous opinion about the project, the audience is growing, so the team has to work hard on a number of improvements.
In particular, one of the main current tasks is the integration of Persistent Entity Streaming (PES) technology to combine servers into a single network. The stable client is already ready – gamers will be able to evaluate its work in alpha 3.18. The full functionality will be launched at the beginning of next year, when update 4.0 is released.
Due to work on PES, Roberts decided not to hold an exhibition CitizenCon live this year. Instead, the event will be held as a broadcast, where the developers traditionally talk about the current progress. Pro Squadron 42 he decided not to distribute at all, noting that “development is progressing well, but we are not yet ready to open the curtain.”
The game director still believes in the success of the project in the long run. He expects that by the end of the year the number of accounts will reach four million, and the amount received from crowdfunding will exceed $500 million. At the moment fees constitute 460.4 million, and the number of registered accounts is 3.7 million. By the way, so that Star Citizen does not stand idle without new content, new missions, locations and other innovations will be added to the next alpha 3.17.2. We also note that today event starts “Free flight”, within which everyone can try out the current build of the game.
