While the concept of metaverses is not new and there have been a number of games that support the concept, the real popularity of multiple worlds has blossomed in recent years. This is confirmed survey resultsconducted by a technology agency Wunderman Thompson Intelligence.
The study was conducted in March 2022 among 3,005 respondents aged 16 to 65 in the US, UK and China. The agency included case studies in eight industries in its report, including retail, finance, health, food, work, entertainment, and sports, as well as sections on NFTs, society, and government.
According to the agency, 74% of respondents have heard of the metaverse. This is almost twice as much as a year earlier. And three-quarters of the audience is confident that the future of the metaverse. But at the same time, only 15% of respondents confirmed that they know what the metaverse is and can explain it to others.
Exactly the same percentage of survey participants said they know what cryptocurrency is. Of those 15% aware, almost half, 42%, owned or currently own digital assets.
More than 50% of those surveyed see the metaverse as a place to work, shop, play, or all of the above, while 60% say it is the future of e-commerce. At the same time, most in the know consider the metaverse primarily a platform for communication and are concerned about privacy, data protection, and cyberbullying.
