Analysts at Canalys estimate that Apple sold about 20 million iPhones in the US in the first calendar quarter of 2022, indicating a notable increase in the company’s share of the local smartphone market.
iPhone shipments are up nearly 20% from 17 million units sold in the first quarter of 2021, and Apple’s market share is up from 45% to 51%.
This is what the top US smartphone shipment companies look like in the first quarter of 2022:
- Apple – 40 million (51%);
- Samsung — 10.5 million (27%);
- Lenovo – 4 million (10%);
- TCL – 1.4 million (4%);
- Google – 1.2 million (3%);
- Others – 2.1 million (5%).
Apple, Google and Lenovo saw market share growth during the quarter, while TCL, Samsung and other smaller vendors saw declines. In total, 39 million units of smartphones were sold during the specified period, which is 3.7% more than last year.
