Early this morning, in a tweet, the developer shared three photos of himself and Reedus. It’s unclear exactly when or where the photos were taken, and a reverse Google image search turned up no results, but the pair appear to be in a location associated with The Walking Dead series, in which Reedus is a regular contributor.
The caption for these images reads “Go to your private room, my friend,” referring to places in Death Stranding where Reedus’ character, Sam Bridges, would rest between assignments. Kojima also used thumbs up and heart emoji, and the positive message seems to be a silent confirmation of Reedus’ recent statement that Death Stranding 2 is already in development.
Discussing the original game in an interview, Reedus said that he “just started the second one”, also referring to the new project as “part two”. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about a potential Death Stranding sequel, but back in August 2021, the title was said to be “under negotiation.” This time around, it looks like we’ve received confirmation that work is in progress directly from one of the game’s protagonists, backed up by Kojima himself.
Unfortunately, it may be a long time before we get more specific information about the project. Reedus suggested that work on the project has just begun, and the subtle nature of the reveal means that we are unlikely to learn much during the course of E3 2022.
