With Hogwarts Legacy, Avalanche Software aims to bring the Harry Potter universe to life. In a recent article on the PlayStation Blog, the developers specifically address the PS5 features that are intended to provide additional immersion in the upcoming action role-playing game. The DualSense controller is intended to act as an “extension of your wand” in Hogwarts Legacy. “With the many spells, which are available to you, the adaptive triggers provide more freedom in combat. With every single spell you feel the magical resistance in your fingertips, no matter if you cast a simple one fires spells or gathers the energy for an even more powerful spell“, write the developers.
Here’s how Hogwarts Legacy uses the PS5 controller
The haptic Feedback on DualSense controller on PS5 is intended to give you a direct link to the wand in Hogwarts Legacy. Avalanche continued, “We purposefully placed these effects on the right side of the controller, making the DualSense wireless controller a true extension of the wand you use in-game. When you block a spell with Protego, you can feel the crackle of the Magic reflected and absorbed by the shield spell.”
Exclusive to the Wand and Spells are limited to the adaptive triggers and the haptic feedback but not. For example, you can also feel reactions when crushing ingredients in a mortar in potions class or when flying on a broomstick. The LED light of the PS5 controller is also used in Hogwarts Legacy. For example, it flashes when casting spells. Otherwise, it shows the color of your Hogwarts house: blue and bronze for Ravenclaw, scarlet and gold for Gryffindor, green and silver for Slytherin, and yellow and black for Hufflepuff.
First technical information
To the Technology from Hogwarts Legacy Avalanche also expresses itself. In the upcoming action role-playing game on PS5, both the graphics mode “Fidelity” (reproduction fidelity) and “Performance” (performance) are available to choose from. This allows you to decide whether you prefer a higher frame rate or visual detail. The resolution is 4K in each case. The developers did not provide any further details, such as the frame rates achieved. Hogwarts Legacy also makes use of the Tempest 3D AudioTech and the SSD of the PlayStation 5. Hogwarts Legacy is slated for release at the end of 2022 – probably during the holiday shopping season. Release is planned for PC, PlayStation and Xbox. The title should also appear on Switch.
