Forspoken was recently rated by the European rating committee PEGI. Due to this, it was revealed that the game will have in-app purchases. Then the gaming community suggested that these were some kind of microtransactions. Square Enix clarifies that this will not happen, but there will be other types of in-game purchases.
From the GameInformer article, it appears that there is a small description on the image of the game that reads: “There will be no microtransactions in Forspoken, but there will be DLC.” All this was shared on Reddit by user ZXtheD. In addition, the information about the DLC is not new: we know that it will arrive in the winter and will be called In Tanta We Trust (Tanta are the matriarchs who rule Atia, the game’s world).
The PEGI classification is likely due to the fact that inside Forspoken it will be possible to purchase the contents of the Deluxe Edition, which includes the aforementioned DLC. It’s nothing new in the gaming realm to insert a purchase option directly into the game (which obviously leads to the store). This is an “in-game purchase”, but not exactly a “microtransaction”, which in the field of video games resembles such concepts as gatch games and loot boxes.
Forspoken will release on October 11, 2022 for PS5 and PC. However, according to a recent rumor, the game could be delayed again if Square Enix decides to release Final Fantasy 16 in 2022.
