An important role is played by the improvement of the characteristics and performance of the hero. A properly pumped character is able to defeat even those opponents who have a higher level. In this guide, we will tell you in detail about all the mechanics of upgrading in the game and how to upgrade your character and equipment in Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds.
Character leveling in Ni no Kuni Cross Worlds
Each character has its own starting statistics, which depends on the chosen class. During the game, you can increase both the characteristics of the hero directly and his equipment. Let’s start with the first option.
Class levels
By completing tasks and killing monsters, the character receives experience points (EXP). When a certain number of points accumulate, the rank level increases.
Level up progress is displayed at the bottom, as a percentage.
Along with the level, the main characteristics of the hero increase: Attack, Protection, HP. All these values, together with the rest of the parameters, add up to the total power of the player – BS (fighting ability). You can see your BS by looking in the upper left corner.
Detailed information about the characteristics is in the tab. “Community” (the transition to it is carried out through the general control menu) by clicking on the magnifying glass in the lower left corner.
The characteristics are more affected by equipment – weapons and armor. More on this in the paragraphs of the same name.
class rank
Starting from level 10, rewards are given for each level reached when increasing class rank: at 20, 30, 40, etc. levels. You can pick up rewards in the “Character” -> “Class Rank” tab. The higher the rank, the more valuable the rewards.
The player will receive additional values of characteristics, an increase in the level of skill, as well as material resources. The rewards for each achieved Rank can be found below.

Leveling skills
Each class initially starts with three basic skills, as you develop, you can unlock new skills. At the 1st Rank of the class, a Chargeable skill is unlocked.
Class skills are unchanged, and each has its own (except for general class ones). As the level increases, the characteristics of the hero and the damage inflicted by him increase. To increase a skill, you need to reach a certain class level, as well as pay gold.
Special skills are divided by elements. They are unlocked and upgraded with Magic tomes. These items can be bought in the store, purchased with donations, or dropped from monsters in chaos fields and bosses. One tome unlocks and improves one corresponding skill. All unnecessary ones can be exchanged for other books using the trade with other players.
Special skills are active and passive. Roughly speaking, active skills are types of attacks, and passive ones are character enhancements in battle. Let’s take a closer look at the skills of representatives of each class.

Equipment in Ni no Kuni: Cross Worlds
Equipment increases the attack power, defense and other characteristics of the character. Weapons also help to more effectively kill enemies with a certain elemental element.
Elements (elements)
There are 5 elements in the game: Water, Earth, Fire, Light, Dark. Below is a diagram indicating the elemental advantage, where the direction of the arrow is the dominance of one element over the others.
The right weapon increases damage dealt by 50%. So, if you attack monsters with the element of Earth with a weapon of Fire, a bonus to attack is given. Conversely, a weapon used against a monster with a dominant element will reduce the damage dealt by 50%.
Armor increases defense and other additional characteristics.
Equipment leveling
Improving a weapon is called polishing. Consider its types:
- Equipment Level Up. Lacquer and other weapons are used. Varnish of the element that matches the element of the weapon gives an additional bonus to pumping.
- Improvement. Iridescent weapon upgrade stones are used. The first pumping has a 100% chance of increasing characteristics, with subsequent actions the chance decreases. In case of failure, the stone will be wasted, and the weapon will not be improved.
- Transferring an improvement. If a player knocked out a more valuable weapon, he can transfer improvements from a less valuable one, while spending a minimum amount of resources. The weapon to which the improvement is transferred must be of a lower level than the improving equipment.
- Awakening. Duplicate of the same weapon is used. To increase the chance (which also falls as you upgrade again), you need to select several duplicates.
- Update. When the equipment reaches the maximum level, you can raise its Rank (that is, earn more stars) and continue pumping it. After the update, the equipment level is reset to 1st.
Armor upgrade is carried out similarly to the above methods, however, other materials are used instead of currency. For example, Armor Upgrade Stones. They are earned in the same way as Stones for weapons.
Upgrade Stones
Stones can be inserted into equipment that has more than 3 stars. As the number of stars increases, new cells for stones open:
- 4 stars – 1 cell;
- 5 stars – 2 cells;
- 6 stars – 3 cells.
stands out 5 stone shapes, and they must match the cells they are inserted into. Stones attach their characteristics to the equipment indicators, making it more powerful.
Stones, like weapons, can be improved (with the help of other stones), update (the higher the rank of the stone, the more gold you need to pay to upgrade it). In addition, you can increase their maximum level – this is done using stones of the same Rank and shape (that is, a Rank 6 peak stone can only be improved with a Rank 6 peak stone).
Stones cannot be removed just like that, you need to use a special tool, so it is recommended to place these improvements wisely.
Black magic
Another way to increase the characteristics of equipment – black magic. Only level 20+ weapons can be upgraded. This can be done at brothers Yavir in the Burning Desert after completing the quest “Forbidden Techniques”.
To improve, you will have to get:
- territe;
- elemental weapon upgrade stones;
- crystals of black magic and gold.
The system is similar to the previous ones: there is a chance at which the player can be defeated when upgrading:
- In favorable case the level increases by 1, the values of the characteristics will increase, and the effects of dark magic are also superimposed.
- If everything goes wrong, the enhancement level will decrease by 1, and any active dark magic effects will disappear. The player can always try his luck again.
