The director of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has revealed that the game will feature a darker storyline than its predecessor, Fallen Order.
In an interview on the official website, game director Stig Asmussen (who also directed Fallen Order) was asked if the sequel would be more “mysterious and menacing”.
Yes, you hit the mark. Right now, the purpose of this tone is to leave the player with a lot of questions, but they are very intrigued. The game is all about survival. That’s why it’s called Jedi: Survivor. They are going through dark times, and Cal and the team are doing everything they can to stay alive. This may mean that they make connections with people who might seem shady at other times. Some of this is shown in the trailer, and again, I don’t want to give anything away, but there is definitely a feeling… I don’t want to spoil anything, sorry!
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will release in 2023 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
A third-person action-adventure story-driven action game set five years after the events of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
Accompanied by his loyal companion BD-1, protagonist Cal Kestis, one of the last remaining Jedi in the galaxy, must learn new skills and develop his connection to the Force to stay one step ahead of the Empire’s constant pursuit.
Survivor is one of three Star Wars projects in development at Respawn. They’re also working on a new first-person shooter, led by former LucasArts veteran and Medal of Honor co-creator Peter Hirschmann.
Hirschmann previously worked on the original Star Wars Battlefront and The Force Unleashed, and most recently directed the 2020 VR game Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond.
Respawn’s third Star Wars project is a strategy game developed in collaboration with Bit Reactor, a new studio created by XCOM veterans and Civilization studio Firaxis Games.
