An impressive mod for Doom from the creator of the recent FPS game Turbo Overkill is getting a standalone remake in Unreal Engine 5. The Total Chaos mod is essentially a new Silent Hill game that was already great on the Doom engine, and the Unreal 5 remake could be one of the best horror games on PC.
There are plenty of fantastic Doom mods out there that make you wonder how modders even managed to cram these things into Doom’s core engine – be it Doom’s transformation into a Shinobi, a post-apocalyptic open world, Mortal Kombat, or the best Sonic the Hedgehog game.
Total Chaos is one such mod. You can download it hereif you have the classic Doom game to run it and it’s basically a new free first person game of Silent Hill. Now its creator Wadaholic – who recently worked on the excellent Turbo Overkill – has confirmed that they are working on a complete, standalone remake of Total Chaos in Unreal Engine 5.
Wadaholic and another developer have been working on the remake “sort of in secret for the past couple of years”, presumably in parallel with the development of Turbo Overkill. You can check out the impressive first screens above. The team says that “the game is still a couple of years away,” but more news should come soon.
Whether the Total Chaos remake will be a free-to-play game has yet to be announced, but given all of these efforts, we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a paid release. In any case, it will most likely appear earlier than the next Silent Hill game.
