Square Enix he never made a secret of looking with interest towards the NFT and new emerging technologies, starting to invest in these directions and thus experimenting new paths never traveled before. And the Japanese giant is already laying the first foundations on how to move in this direction.
For example, in recent times Square Enix has invested in Blacknut to expand towards cloud gaming, and has already shared its plans on NFT, revealing that it wants to develop not only “blockchain-based games and entertainment“, but also “NFT focused on fiction“, although he did not explain in more detail what they should consist of and how they will work.
In any case, at least for the moment, these medium-term plans they shouldn’t involve in any way the most important brands of Square Enix, such as Final Fantasy And Dragon Quest. The president of the company, Yosuke Matsudain fact stated that “it is still too early to consider the idea of blockchain games on Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, we are not really thinking about it for now“.
Obviously, nothing prevents the situation from changing one day, and that NFT themed Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest can actually see the light. That moment, however, is still quite distant. Matsuda previously also revealed what Square Enix will do with the money from the sale of Eidos and Crystal Dynamics, confirming that he wants to use them to strengthen their flagship brands rather than investing them in emerging technologies.
