The developer under the nickname Aaronp613 found references to the new Siri Remote for Apple TV set-top boxes in the iOS 16 beta code.
The first two iOS 16 betas contain lines of code mentioning “SiriRemote4” and “WirelessRemoteFirmware.4” that don’t match any existing Apple TV remote.
Aaron noted that the original Siri Remote is identified as “SiriRemote”, the updated version with the white circle around the Menu button is “SiriRemote2”, and the silver accessory released last year is “SiriRemote3”. Based on this, we can assume that “SiriRemote4” is a remote control for the future Apple TV set-top box.
It’s worth noting that a month ago, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo was talking about a new Apple TV launch in the second half of 2022. Rumor has it that the set-top box will cost much less than the existing Apple TV 4K and will be able to compete with Roku and Google TV devices.
