Samsung Electronics has unveiled a new miniature 200MP ISOCELL HP3 camera sensor for upcoming flagship smartphones.
The Samsung ISOCELL HP3 is a 1/1.4-inch 200MP sensor with a 0.56 micron pixel size. This is 20% smaller than the 0.64 micron pixel in the ISOCELL HP1 sensor that came out last year.
The sensor offers not only some of the smallest pixels, but the ability to autofocus in every pixel, merge multiple pixels into one for better low-light shots, and multiple ISO boost for maximum dynamic range.
Super QPD technology uses a single four-pixel lens for faster and more accurate autofocus. It can also combine four 0.56-micron pixels into a larger 1.12-micron pixel for 50-megapixel low-light shots, or even 16 pixels into one at 2.24 microns.
The sensor also allows you to shoot video in 8K resolution at 30fps and 4K at 120fps. In addition, it offers 14-bit color depth (4 trillion colors), which is four times the 12-bit depth of most smartphone sensors.
Mass production of Samsung ISOCELL HP3 sensors will start this year, and the first smartphones with such cameras will be released in 2023.
