Chinese media have reported that the new 7th generation iPad mini will get a ProMotion display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. The head of the DSCC, Ross Young, explained why this will not happen.
Apple uses low-cost a-SI LCDs in the iPad mini, which are not compatible with ProMotion technology, Yang said. iPad Pro models feature Oxide (IGZO) LCD panels, which are also used in premium smartphones. Yang also noted that none of the vendors tested 8-inch or 9-inch high refresh rate LCD panels.
In addition, the company does not see any point in introducing screens with a refresh rate of 120 Hz in devices that are not included in the Pro lineup.
It is likely that the iPad mini will still get a display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, but by then the iPad Pro will switch to OLED panels with a frequency of 240 Hz.
