The CEO of Striking Distance Studios recently opened up about the comparison between The Callisto Protocol and Dead Space. Although his new horror game shouldn’t necessarily be scarier, it should be all the more cruel.
On Eurogamer is a detailed interview found with Glen Schofield. As head of his own development studio, the “Dead Space” co-inventor is currently working on “The Callisto Protocol”.
Because of his 2008 horror work, comparing the two games was an important topic. Schofield didn’t promise that The Callisto Protocol would be scarier than Dead Space. But the coming space horror should be “much more cruel”.
Gore system breaks off all body parts
At this point, Schofield explains, “It has some pretty gruesome moments, really. We developed Gore technology. That’s a lot of rendering, and you break the characters into jumps, cut them up with their bones sticking out and all that. Then the renderers do their special thing of making everything look wet. And so every character had to be made that way – and however you do it, pieces break off, or parts of the face, parts of the head.”
So the studio head concludes, “This is so progressive compared to Dead Space.”
About the gore system Schofield spoke to IGN recently. This technology required several years of development and provides a variety of splatter effects. As a result, you should practically never see the same injuries.
Schofield has often asked himself what a burden the development team’s work must be. After all, they work with terrifying images every day real examples demonstrate. It shows dead bodies, smashed faces and other unsightly things. Because of this, he advises them to take a break after the game goes on sale. If nothing else goes wrong, it will be on December 2nd of this year.
More news on The Callisto Protocol:
Not even two months later, the remake of “Dead Space” appears, the original serving as a model for “The Callisto Protocol”. Schofield could well imagine that his new project will also get a new edition in ten years. That would indicate the success at that time.
In addition, he again addresses a possible franchise, which he says would be desirable. Only compared to PCGamesN was there talk of the beginning of a new game series. The development team has at least “no shortage of ideas“
