Blizzard Entertainment has finally clarified what will happen to Overwatch after the release of Overwatch 2. In a statement to Axios, the company confirmedthat after the release of Overwatch 2 the first game will actually be closed.
Players who have had time to get acquainted with Overwatch and unlock any content in the game will save it in the second part.
Our goal is not to divide the audience and make the transition to Overwatch 2 as smooth as possible. So when Overwatch 2 launches as a free-to-play service on October 4, it will replace the current build of Overwatch. Content unlocked by players in Overwatch will automatically carry over to Overwatch 2.
From earlier clarifications from the company, we know that only loot boxes will not move to Overwatch 2. During the migration, they will be automatically opened, and the content contained inside will be transferred to the players’ profiles.
Apparently, there are no plans to transfer story content from the first part to Overwatch 2. At first, the game will only have PvP modes, over time Overwatch 2 will get its own PvE component.
