As the official opening of the 2022 edition of First Playable, a great videogame event dedicated to Italian developers, approaches, good news is arriving for the sector in our country.
The latest data indeed paint an encouraging picture, with over 160 software houses active in the peninsula, for a total of over 1,600 employees. Of the latter, 79% are under the age of 36. In constant growth for some years now, the Italian videogame sector has totaled a turnover of over 2 billion euros.
Positive news also seems to arrive on theinstitutional commitment. Although 93% of Italian developers confirmed that they had to use their savings, at least initially, to finance themselves, the percentage of authors who were able to have access to public financing. Compared to 2018 data, in particular, 2022 records an 18% growth on this front.
In confirmation of this trend, the renewal of the Videogames Tax Credit by the Ministry of Culture, even with a doubling of the dedicated financial coverage, currently equal to 11 million euros. Alongside the institutions, the private sector also offers important contributions to the growth of Made in Italy gaming. We can, for example, mention the Red Bull Indie Forgewith the event that will return again this year, with applications that will remain open until the end of July.
Overall, the sector seems to be experiencing a positive moment, with well 75% of Italian developers who say they are optimistic on the future of industry in our country.
