Taika Waititi has revealed new information about his film in Galaxy Far, Far Away – and that’s bad news for those hoping for a filming announcement soon. “At the moment I’m trying to write my idea for Star Wars,” the director told The New York Times. “However, nothing has been decided yet, and everything will depend on the finished script.”
Waititi admitted:
I have to see how it goes, because when I submit the final script, that will determine when the film will be made, and if it will be made at all. I don’t mind taking six months off and just hanging out with the kids.
Talking about the need for a new approach to Star Wars – with new characters and stories – Waititi recently stated, “I think for the Star Wars universe to expand, it just has to expand.” He explained:
I don’t think I’ll be of any use to the Star Wars universe if I make a movie that everyone says, “Oh great, these are the Millennium Falcon blueprints and this is Chewbacca’s grandma.” It’s all great, of course, although I would like to take something new, create new characters and just expand the world, otherwise it feels like a very small story.
