Apple has yet to release the first generation of iPads with OLED displays, and suppliers are already preparing to produce improved panels for the second generation of such tablets.
According to The Elec, Samsung Display is negotiating prices for new Gen 8.5 OLED display equipment for tablet OLED panels. Samsung plans to use this equipment to mass-produce Gen 8.5 OLED panels in late 2024 for the second generation iPad with OLED displays.
The first generation of iPads with OLED panels, including the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models, are expected to use OLED Gen 6 displays from LG and Samsung. The transition to Gen 8.5 OLED panels for the second generation will allow suppliers to reduce the cost of producing screens for tablets.
Apple is rumored to release the first iPad models with OLED displays in 2024.
