Blogger Vadim Yuryev said that the MacBook Pro on the M2 processor heats up many times more than other Apple laptops. During the test, the chip of the device warmed up to 108 ° C, and the cooling fans were running at maximum speed.
The blogger tested the new 13-inch MacBook Pro based on the M2 processor. Tested by exporting Canon RAW video files at 8K resolution. The processor temperature reached 108°C, and the rotational speed of the cooling system fans was selected to a maximum of 7200 rpm.
After reaching the peak temperature, the overheating protection system was turned on and the processor began to “troll”. The frequency of some cores was almost halved, and power consumption dropped from 29.46 W to 7.31 W. The protection system helped to reset the processor temperature to 84 ° C, but after that the indicators grew again. The blogger noted that he had not seen this behavior on any other Mac before.
For comparison, Yuryev conducted a test on other Apple laptops. As a result, it turned out that the performance increase of the MacBook Pro on the M2 compared to the MacBook Pro on the M1 was only 10%. It took different laptops to export Canon RAW video files in 8K resolution:
MacBook Pro on M1 – 21 minutes 40 seconds; MacBook Pro on M2 – 19 minutes 40 seconds; MacBook Pro on M1 Pro – 11 minutes 21 seconds.
Previously, users have noticed that the SSDs in the MacBook Pro M2 are slower than those in the MacBook Pro M1. It turned out that the write speed to the drive is 30% lower, and the read speed is 50% lower. MacRumors sources also said that the MacBook Air on the M2 processor will go on sale on July 15, 2022.
