Ubisoft wants to raise awareness of climate change through events in the games “Riders Republic” and “Skull and Bones”. How exactly this looks like is explained in the article.
Anyone who starts the multiplayer sports game “Riders Republic” in the near future will quickly notice: A fire has broken out! The surrounding forest is described in more detail to be in flames.
As a result, players will see an orange colored sky. In addition, the character wears a gas mask that protects against the life-threatening smoke of a fire. Parts of the game world should no longer be accessible during this “short and intense” event.
To fight the spread of the fire, players must work closely together: first, locate the most vulnerable areas using photo mode. After that, the aim is to reduce the spread of the fire with the help of cooperative activities. For example, the forest paths can be cleaned or aluminum foil can be wrapped around the tree trunks.
This in-game event aims to bring the impact of climate change into focus. One of them is the risk of forest fires, which the United Nations says will increase in the coming years. The reason for this is the increasing dryness and drought, which makes it easy for a fire to break out.
Prevents overfishing of the seas
Something similar is planned for the not yet released “Skull and Bones”. In the pirate adventure, among other things, the overfishing be addressed. This also affects climate change. Here the player will have the opportunity to take care of the protection of the sea creatures. If players succeed, they unlock exclusive rewards.
Incidentally, Ubisoft has announced a collaboration with marine conservation organizations. This is intended to convey to the players that their activities have a positive impact on the oceans. They should feel motivated to complete challenges for the benefit of humanity.
When exactly “Skull and Bones” will be available is still unknown. Rumor has it that it will this year happen.
