Disco Elysium, one of the best games of 2019, has received a free update to make it easier for people with dyslexia to play. A special font has been added to the game.
Dyslexia is a specific learning disability of neurological origin. Characterized by difficulty with accurate or fluent word recognition and poor reading and writing abilities.
The font used for most languages is called OpenDyslexic and was designed to mitigate common reading errors that people with dyslexia can make. In Disco Elysium, OpenDyslexic is used for the English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese-Brazilian and Polish versions of the game. Other languages have also been taken into account: the Korean version uses a font called Nanum Square Round, while the Russian version uses Adys. ZA/UM also stated that they are still exploring options for Traditional and Simplified Chinese.
It is very important, especially for a game with more than a million words, to continue to make improvements so that everyone can get the best user experience while playing.
It’s always nice to see how video game developers go to meet people who are experiencing any physical or psychological difficulties that do not allow them to comfortably play video games.
