Francisco Geronimo, an analyst at IDC research company, tweeted informedthat sales of the Meta* Quest 2 virtual reality helmet since its launch at the end of 2020 have reached 14.8 million units.
He spoke about this back in early June, but the media paid attention to the post only now.
According to Geronimo, this result makes Meta*’s VR headset the most successful device in the segment to date. In addition, thanks to Quest 2 in 2021, the VR market grew by 97% last year, and already by 242% in the first quarter of 2022.
Fun fact: Meta* Quest 2 outsold Nintendo’s Wii U console with 13.56 million units sold.
IDC predicted further growth of the XR segment. According to company representatives, by 2026 the market for AR and VR headsets will reach 50 million devices. It is expected that approximately 30 million devices will be bought by gamers, and the remaining 20 will go to corporate purposes.
