Indie developer Tim Rachor has released a small adventure game Dalyeh inspired by the stories of Howard Lovecraft. Dalyeh has a peculiarity: all the graphic content for it was created by artificial intelligence.
To generate backgrounds, characters, and other images, Tim used the DALL-E neural network, created by OpenAI researchers. She can generate pictures based on a simple test description.
The first version of DALL-E works much worse than the second, but its capabilities turned out to be enough to create an atmospheric and frightening world in its own way.
And here’s another story
In terms of gameplay, Dalyeh is a point-and-click adventure game in which a whimsical-looking protagonist explores a small port town. Tim wrote the texts for the game himself, so the plot of Dalyeh is quite logical.
Tim did not specify how much the use of the neural network accelerated the creation of Dalyeh and how long the game took to develop. You can play Dalyeh right in your browser, the game is available on itch.io.
