The company is confident that it will be able to continue working even in such conditions.

During a Q&A session with the company’s shareholders, Nintendo management spoke about the existence of a plan in case of a catastrophic earthquake or other natural event. The plan outlines how to proceed if a disaster hits the company’s headquarters.
A significant part of the protective measures are proactive in nature:
- Nintendo constantly backs up its projects and other critical information. If the data is destroyed, it can be quickly restored.
- The company tries to distribute orders among several contractors. If one can’t work, the rest will take over the task and, for example, ensure the supply of components for the consoles.
- Separate emergency plans have been developed for all departments.
The existence of such a plan, notes VGC, is quite logical. Japan is a small country, occupying only a quarter of a percent of the Earth’s territory, but more than 18% of all earthquakes are recorded here.
Nintendo is confident that the company will be able to keep working even in emergency conditions. Perhaps not so long ago, the relevance of the company’s plan was tested in practice.
As explained by Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa, the plan takes into account the possibility of a new dangerous disease with a high probability of infection, that is, the plan could be put into action after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The President did not specify whether this is so.
