Whenever news emerges that shows Sony’s willingness to expand more and more in the market PCthe controversy over the usefulness of PS5 whether its exclusive games will also be available on another platform and in many cases will run even better. The answer is actually very simple: no. As indeed the release of Xbox games on PC did not make Xbox One useless before and the Xbox Series now, with the latter which are also registering excellent sales (just to disprove the apocalyptics). Those who make certain statements do not consider the fact that PC and console express two very different ways of playing and are two worlds in some ways still distant. Hardly a pure console gamer, who finds it comfortable and enjoyable to have his hardware connected to the TV and be able to start games with as little fuss as possible, will abandon his way of playing just because certain games are also elsewhere.
After all, the most played titles are certainly not the exclusive, but the various FIFA, COD, Fortnite, Genshin Impact and so on, which are all found both on consoles and on PC and which have not moved the market an inch. Indeed, the best-selling editions often remain the console ones.
Those who choose a certain hardware do so for many different reasons, which often have nothing to do with video games (the aforementioned convenience, presence in certain communities, continuity with respect to the previous choice, sympathy for the brand, price, desire to have the same console as direct friends, various and possible). After all we are talking about machines that now see a handful of exclusives come out a year, certainly no longer able to occupy the entire game time of the most active users. So it is also normal that broader and more personal evaluations are made before choosing, which go beyond “exclusive yes, exclusive no” which console warriors like so much, but which has less and less weight in terms of units sold.
The PC is also a fairly harsh environment. Not like in the past, when to run an Ultima you spent hours editing the operating system configuration files, to free up as much memory as possible, but it is on average more complex and more problematic than any console. This is not a problem for PC gamers, but it can be for those who would have a hard time even unscrewing four screws to mount an SSD inside PS5.
So the fear that the release of PlayStation games on PC is likely to depress PS5 sales seems truly unfounded. There will probably be a few units moving from one side to the other, but we don’t think it goes any further.
