News broke yesterday that award-winning author Mary DeMarle has decided to join BioWare after 15 years at Eidos Montreal. As has now been confirmed, she will be involved in the new “Mass Effect” there.
News broke on Monday that acclaimed author Mary DeMarle had decided to leave Eidos Montreal and join the makers of Mass Effect and Dragon Age at BioWare.
In addition, BioWare’s Michael Gamble, the game director working on the new “Mass Effect,” spoke up and confirmed that Mary DeMarle will be joining his team. As the new Senior Narrative Director, DeMarle will be largely responsible for the story of the upcoming Mass Effect title.
“Oh hello! I am very pleased to announce that Mary DeMarle will be joining the Mass Effect team as Senior Narrative Director,” Gamble wrote. “You’ve seen her work in Guardians of the Galaxy and Deus Ex (to name a few!). She’s gorgeous.”
The author looks back on an impressive CV
For the past 15 years, DeMarle has worked at Eidos Montreal, including co-creating the story of the action title Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, for which she received the Game Award for Best Narrative. Other titles DeMarle has worked on in the past include Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Myst IV: Revelation, Myst III: Exile, and Homeworld 2.
It is unclear when the official unveiling or at least further details on the next chapter of the “Mass Effect” saga can be expected. In April of this year, those responsible at BioWare confirmed that the development of the ambitious project had reached the first important milestone. This is how the new “Mass Effect” went from the prototype phase into early development. Conversely, this unfortunately means that it will be a few more years before the release of the science fiction adventure can be expected.
