There are currently reports about a patent application and a job advertisement from Sony, which fuel the hope that PS3 games could eventually be playable on the PS5.
A large number of games from older Sony consoles can now be downloaded and played via Sony’s services. But the PS3 is still left out and can only be had via cloud gaming. Now there is hope from two directions that this could change.
A job posting from Sony is currently attracting attention. There they are looking for a software development engineer to take care of classics on the PS5. In addition to the development of new features, the development of new emulators is also mentioned there.
That alone doesn’t say much, but a new patent from Sony has also surfaced covering the use of PS3 peripherals on the PS5, including the EyeToy, PS Mouse and PS Move controller.
Exactly what that will be remains to be seen, but at least it’s a glimmer of hope for those who’d like to enjoy their PS3 classics on the PS5 as well.
