According to show co-creator Matt Duffer, the final fifth season of Stranger Things will not spend time on the story of the current life of the characters. And at the end of the project, the audience will have several endings that will complete the story of all the main characters.
The fifth season of Netflix’s Stranger Things, the show’s final, will be shorter than the fourth season that premiered this summer, co-creator Matt Duffer said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. The showrunner’s words are reported by Deadline.
According to Duffer, the authors of the show are not going to waste time on picking up the pace and tell about the current stage in the life of the main characters – teenagers from the town of Hawkins who are trying to save the world from supernatural monsters that come to the real world from the Upside Down.
“If you look at the structure of the fourth season, you will realize that it takes almost two hours before our children are really drawn into the supernatural mystery. You get to know them, you see their lives, they struggle to adapt to high school <...>. None of this will obviously happen. [в пятом сезоне]. The characters will already be in action, they will already have a purpose,” said Matt Duffer.
The finale of the project, as Duffer notes, will be a 2.5-hour episode, similar to a full-length film. The showrunner compared the project’s planned ending to The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King: “I’m sure the ending will be much longer [основных эпизодов]it will be a series in the vein of The Return of the King with about eight endings.”
Earlier, in an open letter to fans, the Duffer brothers did not rule out the possibility of producing a spin-off of the series: “There are many more fascinating stories to tell about the world of Stranger Things: new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes. However, first we want to finish the story of a strong girl named Eleven and her brave friends, the story of a broken police chief and a desperate mother, the story of the small town of Hawkins and another dimension – the Upside Down.
The show premiered in 2016. During its run, Stranger Things received 31 Emmy nominations and won the award six times. The fourth season of the project previously set a streaming service record for the most minutes watched per week in the United States and became the most successful English-language series on the platform.
