TFI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared information about large-scale changes in Apple’s business strategy – the company plans to use the latest chipsets only in Pro iPhone models.
Regular iPhones will be equipped with last year’s chips, Kuo said. So the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will get the new A16 chip, while the regular iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus will stay with the A15 chip. The company will adhere to this policy in the future.
Bloomberg also confirmed that only two of the four iPhone 14 models will receive the new, faster chip.
The analyst believes that the huge differences between regular iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models will make more expensive smartphones even more popular among consumers. Moreover, by the end of 2022, the iPhone 14 Pro will account for up to 60% of the sales of all smartphones in the series.
It’s worth noting that Apple has been doing something similar with the iPad lineup for the past two years – top models got M-series chips, while cheap iPads stayed on A-series chips.
