For a long time, but now they are back to such conversations.
Oil on the fire of global political controversy was added yesterday by the Bloomberg agency, which announced the intention of the US authorities to seek a complete ban on the supply of ASML lithographic scanners of any type to China. This type of equipment is used in the production of semiconductor components, and ASML from the Netherlands is almost a monopoly supplier. Since 2019, as noted ReutersUS authorities have already banned the import of scanners designed to work with ultra-hard ultraviolet (EUV) radiation into China.

For the time being, US authorities allow ASML to supply equipment for more mature lithographic technologies – according to some reports, it allows the production of components equivalent in their properties to 10-nm chips. The United States has the right to control the export of such technologies on the grounds that they are their creators, even if the equipment itself is manufactured in the Netherlands by a third-party public company. Representatives of ASML, by the way, commented sparingly on all these rumors, saying that such conversations have been going on for a long time, but no one has yet taken any further actions in this direction.
