Kadokawa has announced that the novel series Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Roam the Dungeon (Jidōhanbaiki ni Umarekawatta Ore wa Meikyū ni Samayō) will receive an anime adaptation.
The teaser trailer begins with the narrator imagining a fantasy world that has been “saved many times by reincarnated humans” and then remarks with surprise that the fate of the fantasy world is now in the hands of (if such a phrase is applicable at all) a vending machine.
A middle-aged man with only passion in life meets a fitting end in a road accident. This is not the end of his story and the hero is reborn in the form of what he admired most in life – a vending machine! But his new life takes place in the worst possible place – what can a vending machine do in a monster-infested dungeon when it can neither speak nor move on its own?
Hirukuma began serializing the story on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in March 2016 and finished it in December of that year, with an epilogue published in winter 2017. Kadokawa’s Sneaker Bunko began publishing the novels in printed editions with illustrations by Itsuwa Kato in July 2016. The last volume was released in February 2017.
In August 2021, Kunieda released a manga adaptation of the novels in Kadokawa’s Dengeki Daioh Monthly Comic Magazine. The company also published the first volume of the manga on March 25.
